Gilles and children at a

Tales from Africa

"Tales from Africa" is a music-theater play for children from 6 to 13 years old.

Gilles Obermayer has learned these stories while traveling throughout Africa.

Since 1991 he has been performing these tales and accompanying himself with traditional music instruments such as: the mbira (thumb piano from Tanzania), the balafon (Madinka xylofon), the djembé (West-African drum) and the Congolese hunting flutes, to name just a few instruments.

"Tales from Africa" is a 40 minute play which Gilles has interpreted into French, Norwegian and Swedish. It has been performed more than 200 times.


Rythmes en Folies

"Rythmes en Folies" is a Suite in 13 Movements for Solo Percusionist.

In addition to playing 15 different percussion instruments Gilles Obermayer is acting and reciting poems.

GROUPS


"Pro Musica Antigua": Gilles Obermayer was a member of the baroque music ensemble "Pro Musica Antigua", directed by: Hans Olav Gorset, from 1995 to 2000.

"Atcheke Theater": Gilles Obermayer is the founder (1991) and director of the "Atcheke Theater", whose repertory is mainly for children.

"Jamo-Jamo": from 1989 to 1995 Gilles was touring and performing with the "Jamo-Jamo" trio which includes, besides himself, Kouamé Gérard Séréba and his brother Raymond Wolou Séréba from the Ivory coast.

"GAH!!!!": Gilles Obermayer directed the ethno-jazz ensemble "GAH!!!!" from 1986 to 1995.

"Kalenda-Maya": between 1986 and 1995 Gilles collaborated with the medieval music ensemble "Kalenda-Maya" directed by the music-anthropologist and instrument-maker: Sverre Jensen.
